Adoption Committee
Metis Community Services has identified the adoption of Metis children into 'stranger care' as a priority concern and as an aspect of our work to preserve Metis families wishes to convene a Metis Adoptions Committee to guide in permanency planning for Metis children in Ministry care.
The Metis Adoptions Committee will consist of a group of Metis Elders (those conversant with Metis traditions and practices) who can speak to cultural and spiritual safety when life decision are being making on behalf of Metis children and families. The Metis Adoptions Committee will review in depth and give direction to plans of care including adoption and cultural plans. In circumstances where clarity is lacking the Adoptions Committee through a series of meetings with social workers, natural parents and extended family and prospective adoptive parents will determine best practices including opposing plans that are not deemed to be in a child's best interest.
The Committee will meet as necessary.
