Delegation is a process by which Aboriginal communities reclaim authority to care for their children whom have been taken into permanent government care. Delegation is a transfer of Guardianship from the government to Aboriginal Agencies which meet the operational and practice standards for this purpose and whom have a mandate from their community.
On Vancouver Island there are 78 Metis children in government care. Metis Community Services believes a delegated Metis Agency will improve life outcomes for these children and youth through connecting them to their families and cultural communities where they belong and can be proud.
MCS has prepared two surveys that will help Metis Community Services define services which may be provided to Metis children in care and their families. If you are a professional working with children youth and families, please complete the Professional survey, available on-line here, or in faxable document form here.
If you are an interested community member, leader, culture carrier, parent or youth please complete the Community Member Survey, available on-line here, or in faxable document form here.
